Welcome to the Affinaquest blog. Today we add our voice to the important conversation about where fundraising technology is heading. Before we get started I want to introduce myself. I’m Jeff Shy and Affinaquest is the ninth donor mangement system I have created. The two you might be familiar with are Millennium (now Sage Millennium) and Paradigm (now Sage Fundraising 50).

That’s my techie background, but I think just as important to you is the fact I have also been in your shoes. I was the Director of Development Services at the College of William & Mary. It was my work there that led me to a career of constantly seeking ways for technology to help fundraisers get their jobs done more efficiently, and more effectively.

So what’s Affinaquest all about? Affinaquest puts the focus on affinity which is what every organization needs to be building each and every day with their constituents. From accurate gift accounting to flexible prospect management I designed Affinaquest to help you build relationships that last.

Why do we need yet another fundraising system when there are so many? This was a question I pondered for a long time before starting work on Affinaquest. When I looked at the current offerings, and the current technology, I saw a gap too extreme to ignore. The current leaders, especially Blackbaud, find themselves unable to change because they believe their very existence requires that the market continue to use outdated technology and pay exorbitant prices to support their bloated cost structure.

As a start-up we don’t have aging software, thousands of employees, some of whom do not possess the skills for today’s technology, and we don’t have multi-million dollar headquarters to support. We can start fresh with the latest technology, hire people who are eager to move forward, and keep our costs to a minimum so we can do the same with our price.

We are now officially launched on the Force.com platform. In partnership with the Salesforce.com Foundation, we can offer you a fully cloud-based fundraising platform for just $99 a month for the first group of 10 users (and only $10 a month for each additional user). For the first time organizations can have enterprise-level donor management, campaign management, and prospect management software for much less than the annual maintenance of many of today’s systems.

Affinaquest is already proving to be a very disruptive force in the market, and we want you to use that force for change within your own organization. It’s time to stop living on the edge staring down at a bottomless pit of costs, all for technology that’s hard to use, unfriendly at best to other vendors’ applications, and worst of all, not part of the cloud-computing revolution that is in the process of forever changing the way we connect within organizations and to the people who support them.

Here’s to a lasting relationship!
